Revisit the appreciation of Daniel Kahneman we published in 2024.

The Nobel Prize winner and 1977-78 CASBS fellow forever changed the course of social and behavioral science research. CASBS played a key role in helping him shape that legacy.

Each yr 12*$450=$5400 in house insurance, 1 in 200 chance of catastrophic loss. Pay $5400 to receive $1M/200=$5,000 each yr. Represents a statistical profit of $400 each yr for insurance company.

$450 a month is $5000 a year. If you have a $1m house that burns down once every 200 years, completely reasonable assumptions in California, this is what the expected value of insurance is. I don’t understand this objection
Imagine paying $450 a month for your home insurance and additional $300 for property insurance...
These insurers want to charge $4500.00 a month on homes and property.
Look at Detroit Michigan abandoned homes because insurance went up to $3000 a month on ppl.

Scent Marketing
Apple introduced scent marketing in its retail stores in 2018. They use a signature fragrance of 'green apples and mint' diffused through their HVAC system to create a distinctive and memorable in-store atmosphere.

My experience of volunteerism; 10-20% of people perform 80% of the work. To improve these numbers, clubs require sponsorship to improve the % of ‘regular’ contributors. Unfortunately, within that select group, the % of ‘regular’ contributors seems to rebalance to 10-20%.

The Clubland Substack is nothing if not versatile. Here, I stray into anthropology and behavioural economics, and look at whether Dunbar's Number applies, in asking the question 'What is the "right" size for a club?'

What is the "right" size for a club?
It’s common to hear people across Clubland reflecting that a club (whether their own, or another) is either “Too large” or “Too small”.
