theyre taking a very strict interpretation of the contractor agreement to say "we can decide unilaterally what is fair billing and what isnt" the client still has to pay the service for the hours, the service just doesnt have to pay me my cut now

they do not want to pay me for my time reserved, they don't want to pay anyone for their time reserved. they only want to pay exclusively for the bare minimum.

the written approval bit is important since it is stated clearly in the contractor agreement that with written approval it is fine. so that second message afterwards was probably the specialist realizing they fucked up and tried to fix it by letting it slip:

I'm probably going to get fired because I pushed back very hard with the specialist team about this, but I'm finding that they have taken a very broad view of the contract terms so that they are not required to pay for the full time reserved, just only time used.

they seemed unconcerned about this idea and viewed it as a hypothetical. it just happened, i used it as an example because this happens all the time with middle school and elementary students. now i just bill for a 1 hour and hope they dont overturn it. these people suck so hard.

i predicted in an email to them payment team that their system would allow students to reserve for a one hour long block of time, but then only use 5 minutes and require me to bill for only 5 minutes with a 55 minute wasted time that I don't get paid and can't get new clients during.

one of my regulars tried to schedule a session today and when i informed them of the new policy they decided they did not want to have a session today this job is no longer viable with all this cost cutting to enrich themselves

update to this, the student that was getting refunded now thinks the company is trying to charge him and is using his credit card without his knowledge and is upset. now the policy is i have to keep the student the full time even if they have nothing to work on so we just sit in silence.

You can't get mad about it, because obviously the people saying it are trying to help in the way they think is best, but then you just get a lot of pent up frustration about how that's not a solution.
