My son’s academy team beat a team from a much more ‘prestigious academy’ when under 10s. I had a conversation with one of their coaches, who told me they tried to recruit kids based upon their athletic abilities rather than footballing. The ethos was that they could coach the kids into footballers.

My son and I watched him play for the U21s at Rotherham. He was the most composed player on the pitch. Moving the ball about with the sole of his foot, his head up and always looking to play forward. Definitely a player there, if he continues to develop.
