My perfect NYE includes putting on my pyjamas and not staying up till midnight. Happy New Year to all who celebrate — and also (especially) to all those who, like me, tend not to bother.

Slightly disappointing aubergine harvest this year...

Here's a lovely egret we saw on one of our regular walks to the beach here in East Cowes on the Isle of Wight. This area is at the mouth of the River Medina, so we get quite a variety of birds, especially at low tide.
