Hi, I’m James! I write intelligent, high-pressure drama and thriller features (according to others, if Christopher Nolan and Paul Schrader had a child, it would be me). I work in politics, writing ads/op-eds for clients on the left. I play poker, love boxing, and read any history book in proximity.
I think it’s so funny to write, direct, produce, and star in a movie where you just so happen to sleep with both Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona.

Absolutely love Paolini, the way she plays. She pushed Swiatek. My two favorite players right now.

A great way to understand billionaires is: they’d rather spend much more in donations and kickbacks to an extorting President than they’d ever spend in taxes just to make sure that poor and working class people starve.

In the last few days, we learned that there are minutes erased from Epstein’s prison footage, there’s an unidentified and unaccounted for figure in the footage, the FBI redacted all mention of Trump in the EFs, and Ghislaine is being sent to a low-security prison…DEMOCRATS SHOULD TALK ABOUT THAT

Saw someone out in the wild at a trendy LA hangout spot and, as I was passing them, accidentally glanced at their laptop. It was open to ChatGPT with the prompt: “what questions should I ask *celebrity name*” and it dawned on me. This is an actual fucking reporter.

I think cheating is bad. I think a society that seeks out retribution and public disgrace of people they don’t know for the sake of clout is worse.

Anisimova played a hell of a tournament to get here, including a win over the #1 in the world, where she looked brilliant. Today wasn’t her day. She’ll be back.

I feel like Javier Bardem just always understands the assignment. Scariest villain of all time? Got it. Comedic friend/acolyte with a shit ton of pathos? Yep. Absolutely broken, confused, depraved entity? Let’s do it.

Watching Casablanca on the 4th of July, 2025 really hits, even more than it already does as simply one of the greatest movies ever made.

If you’re not rich, Trump and complicit Republicans (almost all of them) just raised your taxes and took away healthcare from people you love so that they could give billionaires tax cuts and ICE more money than the entire Marine Corps to kidnap your and your neighbors without due process.

Social media trivializes even the most heinous political info. The fact that you read “Kilmar Abrego Garcia tortured” and then see a photo of your friend at the beach just dampens any effect the word TORTURE should have. And yet, it’s the only way most people find out anything anymore.

This is my big “wait, what?” with the MSM. You would think they wanted Trump to win to juice ratings, but they’re not even sensationalizing the things that would actually get them viewers. Doing everything in their power to maintain and codify their own obsolescence.
Our media norms developed for a world where government business was dull insider material, and Congress served an essentially managerial role, tweaking obscure knobs and levers. And those norms have continued while government has tilted into a hub of radical far-right efforts to remake America.
Flipping back and forth between CNN and MSNBC wondering if they're showing any part of the House fight over the biggest bill in recent history and, no, they're reporting on Puff Daddy's trial and something about hot dogs, so

28 Years Later really missed the boat by not playing Green Day’s “Saint Jimmy” at cut to black.

That’s two films in as many weeks that lure you in with the promise of a great and very popular actor, only to use them for like five minutes of the movie.

For a while, it was a popular belief that decorum masked the insidious acts of evil people, but now that public decorum is gone, it looks like it actually constrained them from doing even greater evil.

If you watch Collateral (2004) and Miami Vice (2006) back-to-back, you’ve essentially listened to half an Audioslave album (epic!!). I wonder, are there other directors who use the same musical artist in multiple films? (In needle drops, not composers)

Does anyone remember a Medium post that made the rounds a few years ago that connected the dots on the data-driven simplification of NBA shots-taken spots, simplified corporate logos, and modern political unrest?
“The analytics guys say it’s a bad shot, but it ain’t a bad shot for him.”

The way you all gleefully spoiled not just the *who* of a certain show based on a video game, but the *how.* No respect for other people’s experience either here or with the films/tv shows they watch.

or how about - we don't spoil major plot points of specific media to unknowing passerby's. Just a thought.

The same people that believe “men should be men” also believe we should send in the marines because of a few thrown bottles.

If you believe that the Marines should be sent in because somebody threw a few bottles, then there should be Marines at almost every high school football game.

This is a psychotic escalation to what has amounted to incredibly tame spontaneous protests by any standard. Show me a single act of significant violence done by a protestor.

ICE waged war on L.A. residents, kidnapping the very people most actively complying with the law. Then, Sheriffs tear-gassed the people protesting these unlawful encroachments. And now, Trump is sending in the National Guard and Hegseth is threatening to send in *The Marines.* Who’s the threat here?
June 8, 2025 at 2:51 AM
If they were going after criminals, the last place they would be showing up is at courthouses for people who are actively obeying the law by going there!
