It’s worse than that even, in that someone from Bradford probably wins one every year. Hundreds of BAFTAs get handed out.

I think it is just about possible to see a Labour membership (Kinnock voice: “a LABOUR membership”) voting for Streeting. But only following not one but multiple World Turned Upside Down type incidents. Otherwise a “fourth in a field of three” type candidate.

It’s an idea - however I did make a Sky Arts programme about it and that didn’t do the trick, so I don’t hold out much hope :)

Like, I know it’s a precarious business, I’ve done it for years. There are ups and downs. I don’t expect the SoS to guarantee me an income. I expect her to aspire to more than overseeing a vertiginous industry wide decline where very few people can make ends meet.

The only one in recent years who had a real interest in TV was John Whittingdale, but the interest was wholly malign

Innit. Always jolly when a pol lectures others about their prejudices in a way that inadvertently reveals they hold a more extreme version of the same prejudice.

I think it’s helped by people having off thoughts in general about creative workers. There was someone railing at me saying it wasn’t the job of the SoS to oversee a profitable industry, which would be seen as nuts if it was about (say) Defra and farmers.

The other thing is that it is pointless trying to extend opportunities if there are no opportunities, because the industries are all broken. And she doesn’t seem to have any plans to deal with the latter.
