My piece on the wonderful Oaxacan uplands of Mexico. Some walking was involved. But a normal amount. Link below:

My brain went bad so I decided to walk the length of the land. Here's the account, touching on burnout, bowels and bringing back the birds. www.theguardian.com/travel/2021/...
No more emails: why I’m walking from Land’s End to John o’Groats
As a government civil servant, I was burnt out from working on Brexit and Covid and needed a change of scene. Trekking the length of Britain is just the tonic

I walked from Seaton to Seatown and fell in love with a pub on the sea.

In Sep 2023 I took on the #GR20, the trek that traverses Corsica. It was a biggie: 180km with 12,700m ascent, across some pretty wild bits of the world. I got food poisoning and frozen hands. But it was glorious. Thoughts on why (and why bother), here:

Even an ‘easy’ part of this 125-mile walking trail on the French island presents challenges for mind and body, but the rewards for persistence are infinite

Back in April, I walked across Dartmoor. It's special - one of the few bits of England where wild camping is legal. We need those places, where ownership and exclusion is exchanged for liberty and awe. Piece here:

The freedom to wild camp can make hiking among the majestic tors and ancient forests even more rewarding, but this right is at risk

My piece on walking the Tour du Mont Blanc. In short - magnificent, apart from those sodding ladders:

‘The mountain’s power sends volts through the soul’: hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc
An eight-day trek high in the Alps of France, Italy and Switzerland proves a stern test amid bad weather, snoring hikers and hangovers. But the views …
