The government's anti-migrant, Reform-lite, right wing posturing undermines our asylum system & employment law. The govt is facilitating platform companies to breach employment law & exploit the most vulnerable of workers the govt has a duty to protect. www.ft.com/content/e9f1...

Is £1.90 per mile a fair fare? No. For example, Woking Council estimates per mile costs of £3.82 based on a driver taking home £35k per year. Given fixed vehicle & fuel costs, to meet Lammy's fare demand, a driver would have to accept a take home salary of just £12k pa.

Concerning that David Lammy was expecting to pay a one way fare of 360 miles for just £717. That is just £1.9 per mile for a 7 hour trip and the driver must return empty. Even brutally exploitative Bolt quotes c. €2,170 for this trip one way.

Cometh 8pm, cometh the free meals on the corporate account for hungry lawyers working late at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London. The sub minimum wage workers that serve them are forbidden even to enter the building to wait in the lobby for their diners to descend. It is all a bit unseemly.

The 'innovators' at Wayve, Uber's autonomous vehicle investment, are not just content with automating the actual driving, they also want to replicate and automate the emotional labour of drivers as well!

According to Pershing Square, a major investor in Uber, in the near future human drivers will only fill in gaps at periods of peak demand, most of the work will be done by autonomous vehicle fleets. Having destroyed decent work, Uber now wants to kill off employment altogether.

As General Counsel, Tony West is responsible for Uber's global 'compliance & ethics' and "has been a key driver in Uber’s cultural change, including its efforts to become the industry leader in safety." Strange then that he would be cheerleading TfL's dropping of enforcement of safety standards. END

And here HMRC advises someone substituting their account that they must declare the income and offset this with 'wages' as expense. Hello - minimum wage, NI, holiday pay?

Wild HMRC thread includes telling Deliveroo workers that they should not allow substitutes on their account (a scam legal loop hole used by Deliveroo to avoid employment rights) but instead all workers should hold accounts in their own name. Have they told the apps, DoJ and BEIS this?

Uber Eats promotions for St. Patrick's Day cashes in on harmful & racist stereotypes about alcohol, food & Irishness. Besides massive promotion of booze delivery, Uber helpfully suggests "ingredients for an Irish supper" which includes only mince meat, cabbage, potatoes & butter.

Another benefit is that I can attend a webinar on tax that naturally "Deliveroo will not be a party to and has no control over." Who needs PAYE payroll deduction for tax and NI when I can just do it all and pay it all myself? And the less they pay, the less I pay! Win-win!

An historic RED weather warning in Northern Ireland. Public transport, schools, restaurants etc all closed & vehicle insurance is likely invalid during the warning.
But for Uber Eats, no worries cos "couriers are needed IMMEDIATELY." Just Eat are put their workers' lives at risk too.
