Business archivist by day; rowing club archivist by night. So, quite a lot of 19th and 20th century British history, and grumbling about digital and A/V preservation.

Not the UNICEF spokesman.

Be nice, I'm trying my best.
(I'm just quite good at quickly digging out relevant documents!)

There we get into politics (both BBC board politics and Westminster politics) I imagine.

My personal guess is that Nandy *could* force him out if she really wanted to, but that it would cause a big row, and probably someone would try to challenge it on the grounds you outline.

But I'm no expert!

No, Order-in-Council is a Government thing.

Technically, if I remember correctly, it's an Order made by the King advised by the Privy Council - a Royal Prerogative power.

In practice that means it's a decision that Ministers can take without having to consult Parliament.

And, in order for that to come about the Secretary of State (i.e. Lisa Nandy) would have decide "having consulted the Board (and, in relation to a Nation Member, the relevant devolved government), the member is unable, unfit or unwilling
to perform the functions of a member."

As for removal, looks like an appointment can be terminated by an Order-in-Council.

See Section 28 of the current BBC Charter.

Gibb is one of the four "non-executive members for the nations" (in his case he's the NED for England".

"The Chairman and the non-executive members for the nations are appointed by HM The King on the recommendation of Ministers."

It's part of the BBC's position as a Public Corporation.

As someone who has been accompanying my mum on a few Hurtigruten trips in recent years, I feel very seen.

Was Deborah Turness heir apparent?

All of the recent Ds-G had had experience in senior roles in broadcasting as a whole, rather than just journalism.

Also, on the version of the album I'm listening to on Apple Music one of the bonus tracks is an unexpected and rather good cover version of The Drifters' 'On Broadway'.

I honestly don’t know what to think about this.

It’s interesting that the author of this article and David Kynaston, quoted, recognise that at bottom it’s a resourcing issue - which is an awareness that seemed conspicuous by its absence in the open letter.

And he quoted E Pluribus Unum.

If I remember rightly, years ago QI claimed that that phrase has its origins in a Roman recipe for salad dressing.

Over what time period?

I’ve recently finished Walter Scheidel’s “The Great Leveller” and iirc he says that on both income and wealth the UK has been becoming more unequal since (again iirc) the 1970s.

Years ago, when I was at the Better Regulation Exercise, I remember being struck with the absolute vehemence of public and business opinion to road pricing.

I am taking a small amount of comfort in the fact that the Parly Archives have moved to Kew and the lovely staff no longer have to deal with working in the unsafe and inaccessible Victoria Tower.

The better solution would, of course, have been R&R going ahead, but absent that a move is a Good Thing
