The Scarcrow boss fights are simple

Avoid him, and some simple traversal challenge

But it shows that simple mechanics can be memorable if you have great visuals

and in this case... the enemy is MASSIVE

Why is the Warden so terrifying?

He spawns due to your failure

The player will sneak through his lair trying not to summon him

But if they fail, they’ll likely be deep in the lair

Meaning just running away is a HARD task

Lowdown is a fascinating map

The underwater sections allow for almost invisible traversal but leave you open to attack

Leading to a trade off between surprise attacks (that need to work) or a more traditional firefight with fallback options

This one behaviour makes random gang members interesting to fight in Cyberpunk 2077

Gangsters will stand on street corners in small groups...

But they SPREAD out when attacked

This means you can get flanked, rushed, and out manoeuvred

Mr X chases you relentlessly

But his attack only takes half your health and the player is faster than him

So he's scary, but it's fair

Want to create better hand to hand combat in your game?

Allow "knockdowns" during fights

It's realistic and changes the dynamic of the fight

The player can be winning, but then be knocked down by a lucky punch, putting them on the back foot

How to make gun fights more interesting:

1. Use elevation (high ground vs low ground advantages)
2. Enemies "appear" suddenly (immediate threat, changes player behaviour)
3. Aggressive enemies (organically changes fight dynamics)
