The Jaliigirr Biodiversity Alliance is a voluntary partnership between 20 natural resource management stakeholders. Alliance activities aim to protect and enhance key landscape connections in our region.
Hi people. Today in "One day, one paper", fragmentation reduces sensitive birds like insectivores and poor dispersers. Generalist species increase but can't replace lost ecosystem functions. Protecting key bird traits is essential to sustain biodiversity and ecosystem services🌎

Comparing impacts of fragmentation on bird functional and phylogenetic diversity in primary and secondary rainforests
We show that compensatory patterns of species introduction fail to account for the loss of ecosystem functions due to the decline of forest-dependent birds. As such, conservation policies should be t...

The Jaliigirr Biodiversity Alliance says Yay to #biodiversity. (You know we all need it. We really do.) 🌏
Today is International Day for Biodiversity 🌏

While governments around the world have a large role to play in protecting and restoring biodiversity, everyone should contribute to safeguarding nature for the future.

Check out some helpful resources in the thread.

Center for Biological Diversity (@biologicaldiversity.org) recently published an opinion piece: "‘Active management’ harms forests — and it’s about to get a whole lot worse." Given that this article has considerable bearing on my profession, allow me to offer a different point of view. 🌎🍁🔥🌳
‘Active Management’ Harms Forests — And It’s About to Get a Whole Lot Worse • The Revelator
Forest management approaches promoted as “resilience,” “restoration,” “fuel reduction,” and “forest health” often degrade natural systems and reduce carbon stocks.
