I was 6 when it aired and I watched it with my parents and grandparents, nobody spoke or moved for the whole movie and then sat, stunned for a while afterwards! I haven't seen The Day After, I've heard of it but thought I'd take break before I watch it!

It was brave in so many ways by how truthfully hopeless and bleak it was but the standout for me was that they killed Reece Dinsdale in the first few minutes. He was the only really recognisable name (he was a big deal in the 80s. In England) unrelated but you should watch ID.
