I love dogs.
I can't think of a single mammal I dislike, I'm at least fond of all chordates, and there are quite a few plants, fungi, and works of art I could not live without; but I really love dogs.

He wears the expression of a man in his forties who has just now realized for the very first time that every rabbit he has ever eaten once had a family. Two dogs on a grey-and-white checkered bedspread. Since the previous photo, the red husky Kenshiro has chomped Gavin's left shoulder, and the great pyrenees mix responded by rolling over, directly into his brother. In this moment, Gavin's right arm is thrust dramatically at the camera, his left drawn in like a T-rex. His hips are splayed wide, and his neck wrapped around Shiro's. A picture from further back, but the same dogs in the same bed in the same room. Gavin is curled like a shrimp, head resting on his hind legs as he looks away from everything. Kenshiro has his back firmly pushed against his brother's, legs kicking and pushing and he drags himself around the larger dog to grind his forehead into the chompable shoulder.

One of the silliest things about getting weller after being suicidally depressed for 30 years is the conversation you have with everyone you want to thank for little the ways they really helped you out, 10-15 years ago.

"Why are you bringing that up NOW? Should I be worried?"
"Not anymore, but..."
Gavin (Great Pyr/husky mix, 3) and Kenshiro (red husky, 7-ish) in the back of a Mazda sedan. Gavin stares directly into the camera-phone, while 'shiro holds his eyes shut tight and pushes himself into the seat back. The same two dogs in my office. Gavin lies on his side, head up, ears alert, once more staring directly into the camera. Kenshiro has wedged his front legs beneath the starfish-like five-wheeled silvery base of my fiancée's occupied chair, chin resting on one limb of its limbs. Moving the chair without disturbing them is impossible. They are both very comfortable. A tall man in sweatpants fumes at his helplessness. Two very happy boys, lying on a bed that was made before they started nesting. Gavin licks his snoot, and Kenshiro wears the kind of smile you might see twice in your life, if you're very lucky. I chuckle just looking at it, my heart warm and calm. Their joy is infectious, to look into their eyes is to know that life is a wonderful thing.

Nobody here knows me, so it's safe to shout into this particular void before I tell my mother.

I got engaged last week. We've been together 11 years anyway, but I'm still giddy.

He doesn't like his face on the internet, so we compromised.

He'd be funny even if he weren't cute. Kenshiro's a expressive contortionist and takes what he wants, damned what the rest of us think.
But it really helps that he's cute.
A red husky, Kenshiro (7) attempts to burrow into a round dogbed. His tongue darts forward from his mouth as his head and shoulder push into the bed, digging at it sideways while his hind legs hold his chonky rump high in the air. Kenshiro lies sleeping, curled just like a shrimp. Kenshiro on his belly, forearms to the side with wrists curved to leave his feet at right angles to everything. In his crate, Kenshiro rests, gray-blue eyes almost shining as he guards a rubber ducky, stolen from a nearby lawn.

A couple of pictures from Thanksgiving.
A black german shepherd named Zeus (approx 5 yrs old) lies on top of my dog, Gavin. Zeus must be over 100 pounds. Both smile merrily. Gavin, the Great Pyrenees-Husky mix, sniffs a turkey. He is a good boy and would not take it. This is why he's allowed in the kitchen.

I should really take more pictures of Kenshiro. He's pretty handsome.
Approximately 1.5 huskies playing bitey-face in a white room on a white carpet. The probably-mostly husky, golden and brown, 70-some lbs, stands staring directly at the camera. His tail seems mid-wag, and his front legs are splayed at a broad angle. The half-Great Pyrenees, all white except his eyes and nose, 93 lbs in weight, rests his vast body on the ground. His mouth is open, chomping at his brother's face. Kenshiro, a husky whose hue spreads the entire spectrum of brown, smooshes a rubber ducky into a carpet with his neck.

Two wood trolls I found while walking the dogs today. Mother and child?
A chubby-faced humanoid construct of wood stands on oversized feet, planks shingled to form clothes around the torso and groin, but smooth over the arms, legs, and face. There are loose branches formed into hair. A rope necklace around his neck uses short stumps as beads, around a carved wooden astroid. In his left hand, the troll holds the end of some long, wooden tube, ending in an irregularly cut, frizzy-ended fork of a tree, just above where his thumb and fore-finger meet in a ring. The tube wraps around behind, then encircles him before spiraling deep into the woods behind. A woman stands beside the troll-child, her back facing the camera. She is slightly more than one-third his height. Another constructed wooden troll, formed similarly to the first, but with tired eyes, longer hair, and broader hips. She lies down, head resting on one arm, the other tucked between her and the far end of the long wooden tube, which then wraps around her elbow, and over the shoulder.

A smiling tricolor corgi sits atop the back of an L-shaped white leather sofa, near the corner, staring directly into the camera. There is a small TV in a small apartment, and an active vaporizer visible in the background. His ears are tall and sharp. His front left leg is the one one visible, white halfway up, before a short ring of gold up to his armpit, and a shoulder where each hair shows all three colors. A saddle of black covers his back and dominates his body, as well as the ring around his neck. The rest is either gold (mostly his face) white (his belly, chest and chin) or trichromatic, save for a black ring around his eyes and running to the sides of his head. A photo of a tricolor corgi, his face up and open, mid-song. His front legs are white from the armpits, one blurred in motion, both reaching beyond the edges of the picture. He sits on a blanket on the same white leather couch, a pale Lhasa Apso barely visible behind him. Slightly older, the same corgi sits on an armrest of a grey-leather couch in a larger home. He smiles as he watches something off to the side, hanging one leg off the couch casually as he leans.

Some favorite pictures of my Husky/Great Pyrenees mix, Gavin.
Gavin with the brown eye showing and the tip of his tongue slipped out the front. He stands on a boulder at a fenced-in dog park, with two dogs of perhaps fifty pounds beside and behind him. They are dwarfed by his 93 pound majesty. Gavin, when first rescued. As he faces the camera, the left eye (his right) is bright blue, almost white; and the right dark brown. He sits, white as driven snow save a few spots brown with dust, upon grey gravel, under the shade of a tree. Gavin, sitting in the same position I do. He slouches upon a grey leather couch, hips and hind legs splayed wide; lower back hunched to recline his chest against the back. He has the double-chin because he is half-Pyrenees and inherited he boofer neck. I had one at the time, so mimicry may be involved. A large white dog lay sprawled on hardwood, staring directly into the camera and reaching out one large paw. The eyes are filled with drama such as cannot be transcribed without lapsing into prolixity. If he could sing to you the song of his people, it might express the sheer immensity of his woe; my words are only sufficient to say his eyes are so sad I must laugh so I don't cry.
