Photo of archway entrance to the secret garden… but it’s closed due to waterlogged grass. So I’m benching in a quiet spot near the open air theatre.

I am a bird whisperer and design botherer in multiple locations.

The crows still appreciate you I’m sure. Every peanut is a happy crow!!

Got the front seat of the DLR to Bank from City Airport. They even have pretend driver stuff for you to play with. Was rather tempted by the Woolwich Ferry Horn! Toot! 👋🏻

I’m just waking up in Europe. I love a good sky… here are some from summer on the lake in Finland. More details in the ALT text.

All the distant horizon is made up of islands.

I’ve never used an Uber (is that weird?!) I’m 100% walk, bike and public transport. I’ve never owned a car and so don’t think of it.

DLR was perfect. Nice walk up to Moorgate through the City. Elizabeth Line running smoothly and a lovely walk home.

Porridge with homegrown hot blueberry sauce.
Hot blueberry sauce is a dramatic dark red over a bowl of porridge on a grey jetty deck. The sauce is fresh blueberries from the garden, a tiny dash of water and a small spoon of lingonberry jam. Delicious.

Have a lovely sunset from about 9.15pm yesterday to sooth you after your shopping trip (Chonk doesn’t need help - we do!)
Sunset over Lake Saimaa. 9.15pm. Assorted islands are black silhouettes on the horizon. Light blue sky into orange on the horizon, a few drifty clouds and gentle ripples in the lake with hint of the sky above. You can see it but fish are still visible in the water below… and some jumping to catch evening snacks further out.

Gull didn’t arrive for breakfast this morning and so she’s probably left for her winter holiday. I like to think of her in Denmark.

Went 40 mins over the lake to village and all the gulls have gone, even near the fishing boats.

The swallows are still swooping and lots of mergansers about.

Finally, first rain in almost a month.
Dense rain clouds overhead. Islands are separated a little through aerial perspective. The lake is a slate grey with small ripples and raindrops on the surface. It’s lovely!

The sky looked like rain.

The ravens have been flying round cronking, the northern divers whooping… gull waiting on the jetty… we’ve all been waiting.

The sky is back to blue now.
Dark water and skies with some big fluffy clouds around the sun. It looks like a thunder storm is brewing. The sunlight is shining on a small boat at a jetty and the light is also catching a gull sitting in her hangout at the end of the jetty. It looked like it was going to rain. It still hasn’t and the sky is back to blue. It’s 28 degrees in the house up in the forest… it’s like an oven down by the water.

Saimaa seal here again this morning. Much closer today and swam above the surface for a while before a roll down into the water showing distinctive patterns.

Completely silent except for northern divers whooping down the end of the lake from time to time.
Very still water on the lake, trees, rocks and lichen on the islands opposite (there are 5 there but it reads as one). It’s so quiet that can hear thunderstorms about 30km away. Hope that one arrives later. Ron Seal was here! 🦭

8.30pm through the the trees to the lake and then 9.30pm.

10pm sunset starting to brew on the horizon. It is still 28 degrees and light enough to still see the fish as they come up to the shallow water next to the granite beach.

Morning sun rising from the back of the island shines through the tree canopy and gives this view from the kitchen window.

Some of the oldest birch are so covered in lichen that their silvery bark is hidden.

Popping up with head out and occasionally arched back when going under, most of the time he just drops down again.
Blue sky and lake. Sunlight showing the rocky niemi and some other islands. There is a light breeze. It’s about 25 degrees and expected to reach 30 today. Still no rain! You can see how low the lake is by the marks on the rocky face of the niemi.

Checking the rain radar for some rain to brew up over the lake… none so far!
Temperature for Lakeland region of Finland still show 27/28 degrees. Rain radar map of Linnansaari to Kolovesi National Parks and a tiny bit of rain appears the other side of Kolovesi. The map shows many green islands on the blue background of the lakes.

Storm passing by for the first time in 10 days. Still no rain.
Thunder storm passing from Rantasalmi and Linnansaari National Park towards Kangaslampi and Varkaus. The sky is a pale blue with pale yellow on the horizon - it is being eaten up by the enormous storm clouds. This is a classic route for storms in the summer - but not had any storms for 10 days. Rug washing today.
Rug in the water with rocks on to ensure it doesn’t wash away. The water and sky behind is blue and there are islands in the distance on the horizon. Rag rug in the water on a granite beach with rocks park of it to make sure it doesn’t wash away. There is a breeze and so the water is rippled.
