I sat there just feeling wretched. I'd not contributed to the conversation, on account of not being a rancid piece of shit and not being a boy. I learned things about teenage boys that day. I had no real social connections so I was mostly disconnected from a lot of the worst shit but it sucked.

They have been really trying. The only reason it hasn't happened is pushback. They're giving in, issue by issue. It's not as bad as Labour, but the Dems' entire platform is basically "slightly less nasty whatever the last Republican was doing" so I have very little faith

I don't see why not. The UK has effectively banned trans people from all toilets (legally forced to use wrong toilet, but also faced with violence and scorn for using it on account of being obviously out of place there).

My guess is a lot of people struggle to understand that effective social support doesn't make a disability go away - it just makes it less disabling. And a lot of folks want to believe that being "normal" is the Correct way to be.
