These are red-masked parakeets, wild parrots living in San Francisco. However, they originally come from Ecuador and Peru. It’s believed they are descendants of birds imported here before the practice was banned.

The flock was estimated to have around 300 individuals. These were around 20.

I finally found the Ohlone Greenway, which I looked up before we came here but couldn't locate on Google Maps. You actually have to zoom in and carefully search every nook and cranny to find it. And it was really nice—far fewer traffic crossings and long stretches of walking and biking paths.

There's a lot to get used to when applying for three different schools for the kids. It also looks like I'll need to take the driving test for a California driver's license in order to buy and insure a car. Best way to approach it is to consider it exciting, I guess. #berkeley #moving #practical

The first days in Berkeley have been marked by both jet lag and many new impressions. There are many wonderful things and many strange things. There are fantastic grocery stores and gardens with vegetation that seems more like a fairytale.
