Just saying that there are progressive elements in Alberta that deserve our support. The right would have you believe all of Alberta supports them. Same situation in U.S. Denounce the government, not the entire population.

You're feeding into the right's gibberish. Before Smith, Alberta voted in Rachel Notley's NDP while Ontario voted in Ford. Alberta is birthplace of the CCF, the Famous Five, Métis Settlements, challenge that led to Supreme Court decision that read gay rights into the Constitution, etc. etc..

The Oilers are not Alberta's team. They are Edmonton's team. Edmonton is a progressive city. The Alberta you're referring to is pretty much Red Deer south. And a footnote that the Oilers are very supportive of LGBTQ community.
