I only ever see bits of GW on YouTube. All television is a novelty to me. When I was in the waiting room of Limerick Hospital last Friday with my daughter, we were highly amused by daytime TV. The novelty was all the better because there was no sound and I could make up the dialogue.

Wealthy U.S. liberals have behaved exactly as one would have expected, i.e. been completely useless in opposing fascism and showing far more concern about their money than about the plight of those they employ as servants.
Well, I'm a believer in free speech. Not the type favoured by many on both the right and left: " I agree with people's right to say anything as long as I agree with them". So, I'd write for a paper or magazine of a different stripe as long as they didn't want me to change the essence of my review.

I suppose the book review pages are regarded as a more neutral space. I haven't ever written for The Spectator, but I probably would if I were asked. I have written for the TLS, which is Murdoch-owned, so is that suspect? I subscribe too because it is my favourite of the literary magazines.

Within the article, the category "British literary fiction" is not used. So, the assumption is that this nonsense represents all literary fiction or that literary fiction is only written in English.
