I write books, mostly #kidlit. My most recent book is WHAT ROSA BROUGHT. It's the true story of my mother's escape from Nazi-occupied Vienna. He/him.

Genuinely, this may be the single best skeet on the subject.

My own reaction was more like Peter's; I would very happily have just skipped it. But obviously there's no right or wrong way to react to something so devastating! Shannon, I think it's genuinely beautiful that you found meaning in the experience.

Great podcast. I'm glad you guys are sharing this conversation.

My wife and I went through two miscarriages en route to our two kids. When we opened up to our friends, we discovered that a LOT of couples we knew had gone through it, too. But it just wasn't something people talked about.

(Full disclosure: the author was my #PBChat mentee a few years ago so I am slightly biased but I honestly thought it was a great book!)

It's not the main focus of the book, but it's typical of the empathy Mangan brings to her characters.

The temptation is to make the parents wise and all-knowing, or utterly clueless, or purely evil. This is one of the best portrayals I've seen of a parent/child relationship where the parent is a decent human being whose approach to life just doesn't quite line up with their kids' needs.

To you I say, happy Rube Goldberg and Neil Simon's birthday!

CONGRATULATIONS! (Belated but no less sincere-- I am trying to spend less time on social media but the downside is that I sometimes miss great news like this!)
