Books and stuff. Unambitious writer and cynical Wisconsinite. Vaguely queer. Not good at bios.
I think the same people designed the grocery store where I used to work.

Granted, the smile didn’t last long, because I wouldn’t give her a treat until I got a good picture. I know, I’m a monster.

Who has a big smile on her face because her copper counts are down to 1/3 what they were when she was first diagnosed with copper storage disease 2 months ago, and now she can eat her favorite sweet potato treats in moderation? This girl!

This has been my preferred set for the last 20-odd years, and I’m still sad they didn’t print any of the supplemental work in the same style.

I got the hefty one-volume Overlook edition when I was a teenager, and it was so imposing I didn’t read it for almost 20 years.

Lucky you, this was the set I got for Christmas one year when I was around 10.

I think you can understand why I wasn’t terribly interested in reading them.

November Novella #7: FOSTER by Claire Keegan (2010)

A reread. Didn't think much of it the first time, but it grew on me. Still don't love it as much as SMALL THINGS LIKE THESE, but to each their own.

November Novella #6: A MOUTHFUL OF DUST (SINGING HILLS #6) by Nghi Vo (2025)

Another splendid entry in Vo's Singing Hills Cycle. I really need to try some of her longer work.

November Novella #5: LOUISA THE POISONER by Tanith Lee (1995)

Girl raised by witch plots to steal a fortune. Very fun. And my first Tanith Lee!

November Novella #4: FEED THEM SILENCE by Lee Mandelo (2023)

Wolves and sadness. Very awoo.

November Novella #3: Night of the Mannequins by Stephen Graham Jones (2020)

Fun slasher fic, but lacking in mannequins.

Also, I've been avoiding Jones's work because I keep thinking he wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, but turns out that was Seth Grahame-Smith. My bad.

November Novella #2: Helpmeet by Naben Ruthnum (2022)

Gothic body horror. Not usually my thing, but this worked. If you liked Leech (2022) by Hiron Ennes, this is probably for you.

November Novella #1: Nothing but the Rain by Naomi Salman (2023)

Wet epistolary horror.

That was apparent back in 2017, too.

Oh man, I wanted to love Hundreds of Beavers, but I had my doubts the moment I saw that this black-and-white slapstick comedy was 108 minutes long. I wasn't sure an homage to the classic silent films should be feature film length, and I was right, because I gave up about 30-40 minutes in.

“You want MY EGG, you’ll have to go through ME.”

Share an angry bird and the curse you think it embodies.

This does *not* look very dementia friendly.

An old guy with balance issues and failing vision might experience a bit of trouble in a room like this.

(Also, it looks hideous)
