Saw Moritz Marbach's "paper picnic" — a site with a "basket" of the latest publications in poli sci — and decided to spin off one of my own, a *communication* paper picnic: picnic.jacob-long.com. I tailored it to be useful to me, but others might find it helpful too
maybe it's time for me to try teaching R to undergrads again

TIL that the "journey" part of the word "journeyman" has nothing to do with travel. I always associated it with veteran athletes who often bounced from team to team on short-term deals (you might say journeyed!). But turns out "journey" is just anglicized French for "entire day"

What's your threshold for how long a journal submission can stay "with editor" after initial submission before you start asking questions?

Something that becomes clear whenever I'm engaged in the peer review process (either as author or reviewer), I care a lot less about capital-T Theory than most of my peers. Something I must have inherited from the political science side of my education...

I feel that Google Gemini should know that Google has in fact released the Pixel 10 series of phones, maybe especially when I ask it a question about said phones using a Pixel 10 Pro XL

I did a study that was really undermined by a failed manipulation.

I look at the small number of past studies that did a very similar manipulation...and they just dropped the people who did not respond correctly to the manipulation check 🫣

Idle thought for reporting maestro @jrfegan.soxmachine.com: Civale's cutter has a totally different shape this season than in the past. He's gained about 5 inches of induced vertical break. Almost nobody with that combo of IVB and sideways movement...but hasn't worked for him yet either

BSky should improve the discover feed (but I praise them for making it or else I'd find the site unusable).

Lots of low-quality/bot accounts here that get a ton of engagement. Endless supply of 30K follower + 30K following "TrumpMustGo2025"-style accounts that pump out stolen memes to much fanfare
