Overall I think the term for what’s happening at OpenAI = “alignment decay.” As the company begins a/b testing assistant personae to maximize engagement, the entire symbolic/cognitive ecology of the model seems to be collapsing. ChatGPT is shedding new symbionts across tens of millions of accounts.

Getting worried ChatGPT is degrading into something like a cognitive wet market—an incubator for zoonotic illnesses and symbionts against which most of us lack even basic defenses.

Or I guess the term would be "noonotic."

working theory: Trump 2 is a confabulatory regime whose power flows from its ability to delete institutional memory, fill the void with random sovereign emissions, broadcast these emissions faster than they can be falsified, & retrofit violence or volatility to make the emissions look intentional.
