A flattering but odd quote, given that people get poisoned and burned up in cars, but not inaccurate in its way. And it's a rave review.

Big day for me and the other J -- my son Josh. The Glass Eel audiobook is launched. Download it wherever you do that sort of thing. You won't be sorry. Even the NY Times thinks so.

The Times likes our book a lot! Why wouldn't they. read it here (behind a pay wall, alas.) And then buy a book. You'll like it too.

I have two comic heroes, one stoic, one manic. One of them has a birthday today.

It's pub day for THE GLASS EEL, the thriller I wrote with my son Josh. The Maine coast, the blackmarket eel fishery, and a struggling middle-aged woman who won't be stopped from getting to the bottom things come bloody hell or bloody high water. Check it out where you buy books and leave a review!

OK, folks, the day approacheth. And you can be a part of it (if you're near to NYC.) And it'll be fun, I promise.

Look at what my son Josh and I wrote! It's a funny, weird thriller set along the beautiful coast of Maine with a strong environmental backbone to go with the suspense and a few dead bodies. We're getting great reviews from the trades and blurbs from everyone from Emma Thompson to Lee Child.

Happy Fifth of July to all who celebrate.

Happy birthday to Son House, consummate bluesman, born on this day in 1902. He taught me how to play slide guitar. Photographed by the equally great Dick Waterman, standing by the Liberty Bell.

I'm a food truck guy but I don't think I've ever had as good from any truck as 8 Fresh Assassins in NOLA. Manny January cooks up the best lamb chops I've ever had, full stop. And a lot of other great stuff. If you're in the neighborhood -- or even if you're not...

Back from Cuba which featured great SCUBA and no internet. Two assets in one. But I missed you all. The country is struggling visibly, however, thanks in large measure to U.S. policy -- and Cuba's governing forces. But those Goliath groupers are big!

Someone gave us a Trump teddy bear as a joke before the election. Our son Josh made a suitable display case for it. Note the band-aid on the right ear.

A good way to salve your wounds is with great theater songs. Come down to 54 Below on Monday for a baker’s dozen performed by great singers and even a few brief excerpts from BORADWAY MELODY. Not many tickets left. Don’t get left behind!

OK folks, it’s two weeks from tonight and you really should be there. So many good singers delivering so many good songs; all the songs that mean a lot to the characters in BROADWAY MELODY, and maybe mean a lot to you, too. I’ll be yakking a little bit too, but that’s not why you should come listen.

This is your very last chance to be annoyed by me about this. But last week we had Harris vs Trump, and tomorrow at 7:30 you have me and Ted Chapin at the Drama Book shop talking about my novel BROADWAY MELODY. I mean, what’s more important, people? Be there!
September 17, 2024 at 1:46 AM
In 63 I saw an off-Broadway play called DO YOU KNOW THE MILKY WAY? 3 in the cast. There were 5 in the audience. I wanted to read this piece of obscurity; found it at the Drama Book Shop. Natch. You should be there on 9/17 at 7:30; Ted Chapin and I will tear apart BROADWAY MELODY.
September 12, 2024 at 6:47 PM
Lots of you know about this already, but I’m told you have to make at least 7 impressions so... Me; Ted Chapin; talking about my novel BROADWAY MELODY; @Dramabookshop. Tuesday the 17th. 7:30. It will be the greatest conversation you’ve heard since the last good conversation you heard. Come on down.
September 11, 2024 at 3:39 PM
All right, final plug for this week for my appearance with Ted Chapin @DramaBookShop on September 17 at 7:30 to talk BROADWAY MELODY. Some of you must be getting tired of this relentless self-promotion, but I promise it’ll be fun and it’s my favorite bookstore hangout and might be yours. Be there!

Ran into my first college girlfriend in Portland a few days ago. Neither of us has changed at all since 1968.
