Inconsequential post detective.
I'll say it until my bones are dust but when newsrooms don't support science journalism, it's just easier to let science funding wither and die. [Katter voice] DONT SAY THAT pollies won't bend to pressure from the papers. They can be terrified of it (see news weaponising the social media ban...) 🧪

We know that citation count is not a very good metric. A major Australian paper perpetuating this ideal of citation = quality is particularly problematic, props up the perverse incentives of scientific publishing and is easily manipulated. Put a science journalist on your staff ffs. The end.

Hate calling out every "is this AI?" but ...is Prime Video running this image of John Beam during his tribute through AI? Why? What possible reason could these letters have got messed up like this? It seems the original is a Netflix press image? Maybe that??? Wth. Gross.

"This was an unintended technical error that occurred during our transition to the new website"

Telepathy Tapes team didn't respond to me, but they did send out an email and restore everyone's access to the "library" -- which is a dropbox they updated with the most recent files about an hour ago.
November 12, 2025 at 9:34 PM
Today, "lifetime access" to the library was revoked with a short email. Those who paid received an email saying "You no longer have access to Telepathy Tests Library. To purchase again, go to The Telepathy Tapes."

The Telepathy Tapes is now pushing users to buy a monthly "backstage pass" for 9.99!
November 11, 2025 at 10:50 PM
The podcast featured a bunch of "tests" performed by the podcast host, Ky Dickens on autistic children. You could pay a one-time fee for access to the library to view these tests yourself, as this screenshot from Oct. 2024 shows. By January, as the podcast became more popular, the price went up...
November 11, 2025 at 10:50 PM
Around this time last year, the Telepathy Tapes podcast exploded into the mainstream, with claims autistic children who speak few or no words “possess gifts that defy conventional understanding, from telepathy to otherworldly perceptions"

It was, many experts said, dangerous and exploitative. 🧪

so what do the chiefs need to do in the second quarter tom
November 4, 2025 at 10:45 PM
there is simply no world where tom brady thought or said the words "A few years ago, I worked with Colossal and leveraged their non-invasive cloning technology through a simple blood draw of our family's elderly dog before she passed."

We'd waited an hour, people pushed in front of us too. But the couple gave up their spot on the 2nd bus to Bolzano so we could get on and make it to our train. No idea how to thank you both, but if you ever see this, you're welcome in my home, I owe you and will repay this gesture somehow! 🫶🏻

GamesHub, which has now changed its logo to... whatever that is... is publishing content about Astro Bot that suggests it comes out next month and it will be the platformer everyone's talking about this year. Extra funny when you consider the same site named it 2024 GOTY. Ahhh. The Slopocalypse xo

🧪 All of the science writing by this author has been pulled from Cosmos. CSIRO Publishing found multiple instances of quote misattribution and misuse. Its statement is here. It will also be reviewing its editorial protocols, which clearly need some tweaking.
July 31, 2025 at 2:25 PM
In addition, CSIRO Publishing told me they found "other instances" of misattribution and misuse from this author. It's both an indictment of the author and the editorial, but CSIRO says it is reviewing its editorial protocols and "putting steps in place to avoid this happening in future"

Unbelievable scenes! Some incredible stuff happening at GamesHub.

This week, I raised questions with some of the contributors there about the work that was being done. There were signs of AI tampering, and the new owners were still featuring old contributors. Now?

Revolt.

Another little IGEA note: This week it announced "Game on Australia", a "digital showcase" (read: website) that "shines a spotlight on the creative talent, infrastructure and government support" for local game dev. But the press release... seemed strange.

🏰💀 Mighty Kingdom is dead. Shareholders voted to change the name to Fortifai. So long, dearly beloved. Where to from here! Who knows!
June 20, 2025 at 7:28 AM
SA Best MP Frank Pangallo brought the Mighty Kingdom grant fraud allegations back into the spotlight in SA's Legislative Assembly tonight. Under parliamentary privilege he suggested SA Police "could see fraud" and claimed a gov dept. didn't do enough to investigate how a $480k grant was handed to MK
June 18, 2025 at 1:50 PM
The name Fortifai already exists. It's a company that offers "AI auditing" and its website redirects to "Hashlock" a web3 auditing company from NSW. Fortifai got a spread in Capital Brief two years ago. It's website is still very basic. This all seems _mighty weird_ friends. Anyway, go Spurs.

🏰 Mighty Kingdom is proper dead (almost). ASX release suggests it wants to rename to "Fortifai Limited"

"...the new name better aligns with and captures the operations and value which the Company
is creating now and in the future" the release says.

You will, of course, notice the "AI" in Fortify 😅

Very cool to get to @istaresearch.bsky.social and meet five current/former fantastic science journalists in residence! Journalism residency programs promote excellence, resilience + sustainability for science journalism and research. I hope to see increasing support for them globally. We need 'em. 🧪

watching dickson ballots be counted and the liberal bloke on the abc having no concept of reality

Most worryingly to me though, the 730 report (left) uses *very* similar language to a 2019 article (right) from the US NIH Magazine (magazine.medlineplus.gov/article/note...)

This line appears practically identical.

What are we doing????????? Extremely tiring reading and watching reporting on screen time, social media and kids that does not engage with multiple experts. 🧪

Last night's 730 Report another example of this.
