Things aren’t going great for the Dukes on the gridiron, but men’s basketball did just pick up a 71-65 win over Jacksonville State in Daytona, finishing in third place at the Boardwalk Battle.

I think the idea that conference championships won't matter because of the Playoff won't hold up in practice, because they're still going to matter to the players and coaches with an opportunity to win them.
Championships are championships. They can still cement a team's legacy.

There's no real need for conference championships with the College Football Playoff. You could go by standings and save the wear and tear.
But those games are valuable to the leagues themselves, so teams sitting guys/trying to avoid playing in them is a bit of a nightmare.
