EU makes up 16% of global trade, and ~45% of UK trade. I'd say the chancellor is probably spot on, a stronger relationship and more innovative relationship with the EU should be this Gov's priority

A deeper relationship with the EU should be the focus of the Government. America has shown its closest allies can't catch a break, so let's deepen our relationship with our closest and largest trading partner:

Absolutely. We shouldn't jeopardise our high standards and consumer values. Instead, the government should use this chance to reassure the public and commit production standards into law!
I don't envy Keir Starmer & Jonathan Reynolds the choices they have to make on #trade with the US but it's essential that any deal doesn't come at the expense of farmers, consumers, the environment & animal welfare. It's not just a question of chlorinated chicken and hormone implanted beef!

Meet non-preferential origin.

I thought I’d do a quick explainer on non-preferential rules that will be used to determine where the goods subject to Trump’s tariffs come from. This will be crucial in weeks to come given the substantial differences in tariffs (from 10 to +50%)

If Trump's tariffs are not universal, i.e. there are different tariffs for different countries, there will be an additional cost related to establishing and proving the origin of the imported goods on the business side and preventing circumvention on the CBP side.
