Medicare doesn’t require a referral to see a specialist*. So the idea that a government-run program would necessarily require referrals is just wrong.

I don’t know what it’s like to treat every interaction in my life as a transaction. But it certainly appears that that’s how Trump functions. So much so that he even assumes that everyone else does the same, only we lie and pretend we don’t. It’s like he can’t conceive of operating any other way.

Thanks, that’s oddly reassuring. Not that it isn’t incredibly dumb, but a dumb bit is better than discovering that a human being would do this in earnest.

Learning to express problems in terms of *risk* was transformative for me. Telling a manager that a particular approach was challenging would be ignored. But tell the same manager that a particular approach “entailed significant risk to the schedule“ and suddenly you have their complete attention.

Seems there’s a difference between a jury returning not guilty because someone violated a law but only in a trivial way, versus a jury concluding that someone violated a law in a nontrivial way but also believing the law itself is wrong. But both seem to fall under jury nullification?

I’d never thought of reanimating the dead to serve as skeleton warriors as a form of raising your kids, but I guess that just shows the limits of my living-centric worldview.

This has been my experience too. A 30 pill prescription requires a 30 day wait.
The only exception was when I was traveling outside the country. And that required approval from the doc and the insurance company.
