Planner who likes to explain. Tackling climate, housing, health and economic inequality crises through better transport & places. In London, from Scotland
If that is the thinking, then it's self defeating: public transport, walking and cycling move far more customers and workers through congested cities than any sort of car, and are key to high urban productivity. More cars in dense cities undermines that

(According to Haringey's online report, casualties dropped from 30 to 12)

Yes certainly for suburban and rural areas that's true, although I'd be interested in seeing the data for other urban areas. Walking at least should be more common, buses can be decent in some cities

That may be true nationally, but in London at least people who use cars are quite multi-modal (although it is probably much more true in 2+ car households) bsky.app/profile/jack...

Ticket to ride?

Thanks! Good question. Would have been more precise to say hardest to find a good direct alternative. E.g. can sub out meat out of a recipe, and spend a little longer to take the bus etc, but if you want to travel to say, Greece from Scotland, talking *days* of extra travel.

...and that system looks like this: bsky.app/profile/jack...
The idea that prioritising cars somehow provides people with more choice is the biggest misconception in transport. Instead, making it easier to drive sets off three distinct vicious cycles that lock in more car use and *less* choice

Is this year's cover based on population density or some other data? Looks like there's a real pattern there
