#Earthdawn: Benevolence — "Raising the Stakes"
A party is gathering for their own devices, diving deep into some ancient caves to investigate the lore behind one of their magical shields. 7th circle session, more dangerous than usual.

It's been fun to explore gameplay genres within a TTRPG. I've inspired sessions from "Papers, Please", "Real-Time strategy", "Thief", "Stardew Valley", "Job Simulators", "Cosmic Horror", "Noir", "Ocean's 11" ... and now"Banished".

And of course, my 15 players enjoy the dice & story of their heroes

This minigame is an extension of the actual campaign. The players have travelled here multiple times to investigate issues they experience. To help with city projects, or catch up on children they have grown fond of.

And hope they survive until the next visit. The wilds are brutal in my campaign

The city itself is taken from the foundry map we play on. And as they work to upgrade buildings, they become more efficient. They currently have lvl 3 town walls, lvl 2 smithy, lvl 2 storage, and a lvl 2 privy.

Didn't see that last priority coming.

Every in game month, the village gets a "Portshadow turn". Where they have events happen from in-canon stories, threats, illnesses. They manage resources for sustenance, defense, health. Then craft materials to prepare plans/upgrades for the next turn

The players can use downtime to send shipments

I had it on spreadsheets, with every child of the village having character traits, backstory, motivation, and professions. At this time it's 46 villagers.

Hard to care about words on a spreadsheet, so I made it a Tabletop Sim mod, with meeples of various sizes/colors. Their circular bases are jobs

I've been working on improving some features for our #TTRPG #Earthdawn campaign. There is a small village of children who are surviving in the wilds. I've inspired gameplay from survival city builders like Banished.

To add immersion for my players, I built it as a complete minigame. [Thread🧵]

One of my favorite RP events is the #TTRP Vintage Story server—a comfy, casual Lovecraftian sandbox perfect for immersive Twitch content.

It kicks off Friday at 9 PM! I'll be live as we dig into the mines of Embrasu. If you're curious to RP (or stream) with me, let me know!

On February 18th, 2010 at 1:17AM I started my first stream. 15 years ago.

Normally I'd try to say something witty, interesting, or insightful. But I think it's better to say "I'm content".

The girl guided them, fumbling with the PILE of coins with both arms. Vashana felt bad. The "wonderful flavor that slows"-kinda rp came. 😅

V: "😢I want to give my extra shirt to her to help hold the coins"
Me: "😈Ok! You'll spend the next 90 seconds rummaging"
Party: "Fug that! Leave her behind! 😂"

Later, a door opened and a small elven servant girl woke up to see all of them

Immediately, they calmed & insanely bribed her. "Gotta save time"

It was a crazy how a simple hourglass & real time changed their roleplay

The troll hid, if his token moved, she'd respond immediately

Actions = words

Next obstacle, water elemental guarding the shortest path, cautiously.

Normally this puzzle could last 30+ mins with RP. I'd have to describe tension.

Realtime was more organic. 4 mins in:
👨‍🦲"We don't have time for this, let's go right"
🦊"Give me 60 seconds, let me try something..."

Some abilities had real time cooldowns of 2/5/10 minutes that players adapted on the fly.

ie: Granozan was picking the lock, failed. I informed him he's working on it, reroll in 2 minutes. Allies used the time. Listening at the door, encouraging him, looking in windows. Rolls were constant, tense.

First, an introduction to the tools. I stream live on Twitch using an incredibly modular Virtual Tabletop named Foundry.

A key module used was "Hourglass" which I set for a 60 minute timer that every player watched tick down. They used arrow keys to move and I paused the game/timer at key points.

I just spent the last 5 minutes looking over my bluesky feed. And I saw friends, posting life updates, go live updates, indie game show and tells, and generally fun comments about how friends want to play PoE2 with friends.

I love Earthdawn. It's brought me joy for over 30 years. And today, for the first time in over two decades, I will be a player instead of a GM, and regarding the game I love, I know I'll be the dumbest person in the digital room. Today is a great day.

I love Earthdawn.

I love making levels for games. But lately I've found an absolute passion for making maps for TTRPGs. I'm not really an artist, but arranging parts that others made in a way that feels gritty feels so beautiful.

Proud of little things like this

How it was then -vs- How it is now

Watched a friend playing a dev build of Pampas & Selene on Twitch and at one point they had a great community conversation, leading to a natural "flow" of killing creatures for 40 minutes in a loop of 6-7 rooms.

Q: "Why aren't they exploring other rooms?"
A: Fran's now implemented a minimap!
