A colony of Badhamia utricularis (Hanging Slime-mould) feeding on Bleeding Oak Crust on the underside of a fallen oak in Old Sulehay Forest. Three stages were present - the orange-yellow plasmodium, and both developing and ripe fruiting bodies, the latter dark-grey hanging on orange threads.

My mate @stevieparsons.bsky.social will love this. He is a suckered for slime moulds.

And all of this stuff is hiding from the rain under a tinder fungus.

I think I even see a fourth species, namely some Hemitrichia clavata mixed in with the Trichia varia, but I don’t have a clearer picture of that part.

Excited to share our new paper! (1/4)

Fungi grow as networks, but how much these networks actually vary?
Turns out: not as much as we think.
Across four species, network traits stayed consistent, even when grazed by soil fauna!

Not Extremely Plastic: Testing the Limits of Morphological Plasticity in Fungal Mycelia in Response to Soil Grazers
Using image analysis to track the development of fungal networks in the presence of predators, we found that even in modular organisms, plasticity is more nuanced and limited than previously assumed....

Deconica cf. inquilina under 365 nm light
Seen in Mendocino County, CA yesterday.
One of the best use cases for UV fluorescence is quickly being able to differentiate mushrooms in the Genus Deconica from other similar looking dark spored fungi that hang out in the same environment #fungi #mushroom

Wow, wow, wow: Mycena pseudocorticola and, finally, Mycena meliigena, occurring together on moss-covered oak branches in quantity (this is just a small section). A friend spent years looking for M. meliigina every time she came across M. pseudocorticola! [Rushmere CP, Bucks]

This was a fun find today!

I believe these are Insect-egg slim mold, Leocarpus fragilis, hanging out on the upper reaches of the stipe of this likely Red Pinwheel fungi, Marasmius plicatulus.

Ik ben bezig met verschillende witte zwammen die op de grond groeien, dit is de eerste. Morgen een Witte Kluifzwam.
