I’ve found some laurel leaves that decay in an interesting mosaic-like pattern.

Orthoceras (big) and Lituites

Really cool liverwort (?) that I saw in Madeira. Photo of backside of the plant below.

Not so familiar with liverworts yet but they seem interesting.

A non-differentiated plant, in the sense that is has no stems and leaves, but a single type of tissue (thallus) that sits against the substrate which is a tree in this case. It has regular patterns of dents and is fresh green.

Since nobody guessed it, this is the Madeira chaffinch (Fringilla maderensis).
They’ve recently been promoted from subspecies of the Eurasian chaffinch to their own species due to genetic evidence.
