im weird but sometimes ppl say it's charming

i think sometimes im in my own little world and im naive about normal human activities

allegedly a human rights extremist
As an anthro & history undergrad in the US, this is very relatable. I guess if they began to refer to these things outside of the abstract, they'd feel more compelled to question the real structural roots of these things, so abstracting away the problem is more comfortable?

Good to keep in mind. Also true that identification politically is weird sometimes, and there are a lot of things normalized on social media that many young men simply don't connect to really f-ed up ideologies and figures. Whatever the case, far right gen z men are showing up politically 🤷‍♀️

Unfortunately I think the way party politics, at least on a national level, in this country are structured stifles productive conversations because of how little you can actually participate in them within the confines of the system. What I'm saying is needed is more decentralized decision making.

What are the arguments for repealing it? Is the pretext just about voters not understanding it? Ranked choice voting would make alternative parties and tickets on our presidential ballots so much more viable

What good is this "gravity" if its only about optics? Realistically Trump is just looking for loyalists to destroy what doesn't obey and make crude actions where he commands... willing to bet there isn't going to be a material difference in how this term goes with Gaetz replaced by Bondi.

They lost because they ceded ground w/o their own narratives, ran a geriatric and switched up last minute, didn't have any signature change to associate Harris with, and alienated demographics that traditionally vote Democrat. Criticism is both practically effective and necessary against the DNC.

Their politics are distorted by the class interests that back them, and the only way other than getting more economically progressive and aesthetically anti establishment they can turn to is this sad social conservative shift. Won't work, they need a compelling narrative & signature policy/program.

Dems could win more by creating their own, progressive narratives, and not arguing on the terms far right figures set for them. They consistently do the opposite and keep shifting further right. Especially after this last election, I would think that constant criticism of Dems is justified.

Dems really dropped the ball not campaigning harder on healthcare issues this year. Especially after the wreckage in the next 4 years, my feeling is that it will serve them well to pick up a major, signature healthcare policy/program if they get the chance to run again. It will get attention.

We get new cabinet appointments from hell every day... it only gets worse 😰 I seriously could not have made up that we would be facing a government filled with RFK Jr, Tulsi Gabbard, Elon Musk, Fox News personality hosts, Vivek Ramaswamy, & Matt Gaetz. The world ends in January 😅
November 20, 2024 at 10:23 PM
We are in a populist era, campaign needs to be anti-establishment like Bernie or Trump. Also needs a signature policy/program, like Obamacare, something big to vote for. Lastly, you don't argue on the terms set by the opponent, you create a new narrative. Ex: Tim Walz's messaging about "weirdness".

Perhaps people don't have their facts right off the top of their heads, but surely there is something behind a consistently felt/expressed sentiment that is worth considering. Example: many people could simply be feeling the impact of the pandemic and the inflation we had before wages caught up 🤷‍♀️

Very concerning how many people thought that the costs of tariffs would be paid by foreigners 🤦‍♀️Better anti trust would be a great way to go about tackling prices 👍 You could also tackle the issues w/ the Fed and high interest rates... but they voted in the guy least likely to do those things 😐

More or less the same he's been saying then? Keeping Ukraine out of NATO is reasonable given its role in inflaming tensions in the long run, but zero territorial concessions seems like a non-starter. I suppose Putin could be predicting he ultimately wins the war of contrition, and get his terms...
November 20, 2024 at 7:11 AM
Absolutely; what this really demonstrates is what progressives have been seeing for so long: the ability to craft a compelling narrative is key, and by ceding ground and arguing on Republican terms on issues, Democrats are digging their own grave and missing a massive opportunity, to our detriment.

I've seen a lot of people suggest that if people move right, you adjust to maintain electoral viability. This bothers me deeply because not only does that amount to abandoning moral causes, it completely ignores the question of *why* people shift. We need to present an alternative, not follow.

You know its bad when you have to consider whether the incoming president-elect is appointing a bunch of accused rapists consciously (as a reward for his manosphere supporters? to mock?) or if they just *happen* to all be sexual assaulters because that's the circles he runs in ☺️
