Apparently my top album of the year was Blue Rev by Alvvways which I could have sworn was released this year but it came out in 2022. time is an ever-faster spinning hamster wheel and centrifugal motion is throwing me off of this bitch

His book from just a few years back is probably one of the better on the subject of indigineity that I’ve read. Part of the punchline is that relative to Arab Zanzibaris, Ugandan Asians and the Tutsi - the Boers should not be too grumpy about how things turned out for them politically lol

Wondering whether new Joe Studwell book on developmental economics in SS Africa is going to be a total disaster or pretty good, but can’t imagine it’s anything other than one of those two

I’m about the finish Mahfouz’s Cairo trilogy and man, what a ride. Heavily recommended!

Between this and the Neapolitan Quartet I’m not sure which is my better sprawling, generational, devastating literary saga spanning the 20th century political upheaval of a city!

Penrose also has an incredible treatment of this in Road to Reality. Such beautiful little hand drawn illustrations too! I mean, come on!

From Jahan Malek Khatun. They say that the Shirazi poets can’t properly be translated (I guess translating Hafez is like translating Shakespeare[?]) and I’m inclined to believe them, but I’ve nonetheless been enjoying Dick Davis’s attempt with Khatun. Real Le Ton beau de Marot hours

Can’t tell if I’m pretentious or if this movie was actually incredible

In the late Jurassic a coral-sponge reef stretched ~4k miles across the Tethys Sea, triple the Great Barrier Reef. One of the largest biological structures to have ever existed!

Roger Penrose is one of the greatest mathematical physicists of the 20th century, and I’m always blown away by role that visual intuition and doodling played in his life work. These are just some illustrations from Road to Reality about fiber bundles

My guilty pleasure is math and physics visualization pedagogy on YouTube. This is a great one on understanding electron orbitals through harmonics.
