I think there is a huge swathe of the hobby for whom “2d6 vs 1d12” is about as much variety in innovation they’ve exposed themselves to, and have come to the enlightened position that all roads are the same inside that tiny bubble.

Sure doesn’t.

This reminds me of discourse that’s like, the discourse of: you don’t have a fan fiction character’s consent to give them romantic desires they didn’t have in source material.

We’re going to have to beat this drum for years and years and years until, like “D&D 4e is a perfectly good game,” it becomes something we’ve all pretended to believe since the beginning.

Twilight was inspired by MCR, and they were asked to do the soundtrack but turned it down. Paramore later got to be a part of the project.

100,000%, I totally agree. I’ve heard people in AP behind the scenes be like “You know, maybe this will all slide away from something driven and mediated by rules, toward something more like improvised radio drama.”

And I’m like “that is the opposite direction I want y’all to take this.”

Tighter episodes and — this might seem harsh — less faffing about with character introductions and meandering moments between player characters where it feels like neither player knows why they’re in the scene or where it’s going.
