But in doing so, his personal relationships have fallen apart, and he's chasing a feeling that may well be gone forever. It's a fun exploration of getting old, and feeling like life has lost something. Even those with no interest in wrestling can enjoy it, I recon.

So close. The MC is an ageing wrestler, once a big time famous guy who wrestled in front of tens of thousands, now old, well past his prime, wrestling in bingo halls to crowds of twenty people, trying desperately to hold onto or get back some of his prime years.

Have a guess.

Very much so! I often just randomly think about it - which I think is the mark of the film having achieved what is set out to do.

I think that's a valid interpretation. I think it's intentionally vague as to who or what Mother is but I think you're on the mark with that.

First time I watched it I just let it wash over, and then on a rewatch I spotted a bunch of little references and the such throughout. Probs my fave Aronofsky (although I also love The Wrestler).

I like it. But it got mixed reviews when it first came out. It's very biblical, you have god, his wife, adam and eve, cain and abel, jesus and his murder/sacrifice. The house = garden of eden, the forbidden fruit etc.

I'm interested in hearing what you think about this one.

Foe, starring Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal. It’s not been released in the UK yet, but it didn’t receive good reviews. Still, gonna read the book.

Just checked and I bought the kindle and audiobook a while back but haven’t read it yet. I shall do it soon!

Yes, I read it via a combo of kindle and audiobook, and I remember the phone calls being particularly creepy.

I need to read more from Reid. I think he has a couple others published that have received good reviews.

I had similar thoughts. Both good. Think I preferred the book in this instance, although I would have preferred the ending to have been a little less explained, leaving more for individual interpretation. Still, v good!
