I think I was too young to really know how to use 3 PPCs and a small laser in a video game, but it's always a kickass mech in my memories.

I think in the Sarna interview the PGI guy mentioned they are about the same size as they were when making Mercs so there's that.

who is it?

Likewise, before the Clan Invasion, it was obvious how more powerful weapons, faster mechs, and better heat sinks would aid forces - but nobody had the resources to chase theoretical improvements until it kicked their doors in.

It's interesting to see how everyone rushes to copy the next great thing, but not everyone can invent it.
Before WWII, it was still obvious how useful mechanized infantry would be to everyone, but nobody was rushing to do that before the Germans conquered most of Europe.

Blackhorse cavalry? 11th? hmm....

12 ERMLs make the most sense in specific scenarios, like mobile defenses where you have cover and/or cooling sources (water or cooling trucks) that allow you to take advantage of it.

Most other scenarios demand a more varied loadout, one that doesn't punish your heat sinks as much.

In your opinion, is there appetite at CGL to flesh out the Star League more? I love reading the Reunification War and Liberation of Terra sourcebooks, I'd love to see more from that era.

Maybe so! No comparison is perfect. To me the Vindicator is a great mech for any army seeking reliability above all else.
December 11, 2024 at 6:24 PM
I've had that thought myself! But the Sherman actually had some pretty advanced technology, like a one-axis stabilizer or early form of GPS. It was built knowing that upgrades would come in the future. The Vindicator was built to function in a galaxy without advanced technology.

Maybe the Vindicator is more akin to the Super Tucano? Sure, it *can* operate in high intensity fights and darn sure will get pressed into service when needed, but smart commanders will look to maximize advantages and minimize weaknesses if you're going into tough fights with a small mech.

I play Civil War era, but I really would like to try Amaris Coup or even Reunification War games.
