This is my United States of Whatever.
Wow. Thanks for that link. Not that I was in any danger of reading the book but.... wow.

(and FDA and CDC etc with the broader assault on drugs. That's .... their market!)

I'm not in pharma, but I don't understand why that whole industry plus medical devices in the US isn't freaking out about what is happening to NIH. That is their R&D and talent pipeline and it's been at least cut in half. Do they think it won't get worse or will just bounce back in 2029??

There are WAYY too many laws. This is what happens when they are selectively enforced.
November 17, 2025 at 6:47 PM
Not just an ethical problem. The way the law is structured and written puts argument at the apex. And the law as written is open to wild interpretation and distortion.

Any expert should pick a topic they know well, then look up some relevant statutes in the US code. It's horrifying.

He got his pride wounded by a dozen people calling him an idiot, so he wouldn't let it go and now it's a hundred.

Right? I'm as impressed as repulsed.
November 16, 2025 at 9:29 PM
Fair. It's one of those internet-wisdom things that's partially true, but not completely. Like I think most of the eastern US they have a deep valve and wouldn't do this.
November 16, 2025 at 9:09 PM
I think for some of these people, the online criticism gets to them in a deep way. It's an attack on their sense of self that fires up their ego. Then they can't admit they were wrong, can't back down, instead triple and quadruple down and belittle everyone who reiterates reality to them.
November 16, 2025 at 9:06 PM
It's worse in that anyone telling him they are doing these things - offline comms for example - he mocks with a sneer: 'as if you're so important'. A really awful posture.

And ignores the progression of fascism even for that example

He isn't even right given the history of the 1920s-40s.
November 16, 2025 at 6:33 PM
He's been at this for months, ignoring the process, ideology for the final state. Italy under Mussolini had a vote to restore papal supremacy. Some Reichstag Fire accused were acquitted by the court. With Tom's definition, neither Italy in 1930 or Germany in 1933 would be fascist. 🙄

Thx for the OG version! So much better.

Revolution number 9 was a solid piece of avant-garde music. I can see ppl not liking it, but if they call it the worst I'd question their understanding of music.

What an idiot. They're birds, just tell them where to go and they'll fly across the border to there.

That delivery was so agonizing I bailed after the 8th long pause of dead air and repeated phrase.
November 15, 2025 at 11:14 PM
Wild Honey Pie is painful but at least it goes away in under a minute. I've never heard this one, it is pretty awful.

Bill Clinton was very clearly a known womanizing scumbag by 1992. When the "scandal" broke in 1998 all the elite politicians and media were pretending to be surprised. So absurd. I didn't vote for him either time, because I was young and thought principles meant something.
