@luellamoore.bsky.social, @peakr.bsky.social, you guys knocked it out of the park 3 years in a row. SXSW Sydney was huge for my career and practice as a game developer, and I made more friends than I can count. I still have all 3 lanyards and I'll keep them as long as I can.

To my knowledge, this is the first time I talked to a queer game developer, and I was honestly kind of starstruck. Not just from meeting the developers of a game I liked, but from meeting queer men who I felt had made it, making weird cool art in the industry I wanted to be in.

For all the well-deserved criticism SXSW gets, the Games festival was formative in connecting me as a developer to my community, at least for a moment. One example; in 2023, right after taking the brick photo, I turned around and met Scott and Pete from @fuzzyg.host.

In 2025 I didn't exhibit, I dropped by after MIGW and immediately got sick, but I got to brush shoulders with luminaries of the local and global industry in the very short time I was there.

In 2024 I showcased Your Holy & Virtuous Heretic as an exhibitor, my biggest in person showcase at the time. It came right off the back of speaking at Parallels, and my student game was showcasing at the same time, running off pure adrenaline in one of the most crowded times of my life.

Nice! I spend most of my Your Holy & Virtuous Heretic dev time in Linux Mint, but I keep one Windows install on my laptop since I'm aware most of my players will still be using Windows. I should try using a VM for it though, that's a good idea.
