All good, you just got pulled in! I agree with what you said here and think the war was very complicated, just saying it is rightfully a sore spot in Russia to this day that so many people died fighting total war for their allies to then posture like they were simply failed allies of the Nazis

Again, I am not saying that the US did not play a role in WW2, I am saying that the average person like you posts shit like this to downplay the fact that 21 million people died on the Eastern Fromt fighting and defeating the Nazis

I am aware of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. That has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the USSR defeated the Nazis on the Eastern Front.

Americans DO have an inflated sense of their role in World War II, because the immediate Cold War following wiped the USSR from the history of it. there’s no sense in projecting this onto left/center-left fights today but it’s just true, the average liberal remains distasteful of the Soviet victory

I get that beneath this discourse is a question of left-liberal alliance, which I am for, but as someone who has lived/worked in Russia the biggest problem historiographically re:WWII is that everyone downplays the Soviet role and says shit like “Russian winter beat Hitler”
