In a 1991 Donald Duck story WHEN CHRISTMAS WENT CUCKOO (art by Vicar) Don and Daisy crash into an invisible forcefield covering Scrooge's Bear Mountain cabin. Donald breaks the dome machine. Later they find out aliens were behind it. I wonder if Stephen King ever read the story? #comicsky #booksky

Fascism is looming everywhere in PT Anderson's ultra-bleak view of America. So, why is ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER so damn funny? I laughed much more and harder than watching the new NAKED GUN. Leo, Sean (that crazy walk!!), Benicio and Chase are excellent. ¡Viva la revolución! #filmsky

At 10, when I first saw 1941, I hadn't seen Jaws or Encounters. I knew nothing about Pearl Harbor or Japanophobia in California, and very little about Spielberg or WW2. I did know Aykroyd, Belushi, Christopher Lee, Ferris Wheels and fighter planes, and thought it was the coolest movie ever. #filmsky

Nancy Allen making love to Paul McCartney's Höfner would be a highlight of any movie. It certainly is in I WANNA HOLD YOUR HAND (1979). Zemeckis depicts the hysteria well, but judging by this flick, you'd never guess that in a few years he is preparing BACK TO THE FUTURE and ROGER RABBIT. #filmsky

What I thought watching I, TONYA on HBO: Maybe Americans are born just to amuse the rest of the world. Some performers in that show are amazingly talented. Many others are just dumb fucks. But all (at least in the eyes of the world) are merely entertainers of the greatest show in the world. #filmsky

GAUCHO GAUCHO is a beautiful cinematic poem with a healthy amount of cows, wine and caballeros. I loved it #filmsky

My second viewing two years after the first confirmed it, at least for me: James Cameron is wrong. OPPENHEIMER doesn't need to show the actual destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Movie's morals are intact just the way they are. What a powerful film! #filmsky

How incredibly lucky George Roy Hill ran out of film that exact moment, and gave us the perfect ending for a movie. RIP the blue-eyed film gods Robert Redford and Paul Newman #filmsky

The Major was too much of a comic book character, sunglasses and all. Otherwise THE LONG WALK felt surprisingly (chillingly) real in it's dystopian terror. Also, beautiful acting and a great score. Those end credit strings, wow! #filmsky

Watched THE MONKEY on HBO Max. Great soundtrack (Nina Simone!) but needed more organ grindin'. And bumpin' #filmsky

"Twilight is upon me, and soon night must fall."

Yoda's famous line in RETURN OF THE JEDI wrecks me every time.

Messi is still pure class. All 3 goals were assisted by players from Atlético. And in Europe, Atléti's Hancko scored against Germany and Le Normand was shutting out Bulgaria with Spain. At the same time Atléti is 17th in #LaLiga. I truly love El Cholo, but is it time to say adiós?
Lionel Messi notched a brace in Argentina's 3-0 win, which could be his last match on home soil 🇦🇷

This scene in Pine Barrens, SOPRANOS S3E11, is nuts! In a show obsessed with delicious food, the London Broil Gloria cooks for Tony (and then hurls at him) is disgustingly gray, flat and floppy. Why? To underline her mental issues and/or unfitness to even be a gumar, let alone wife? #foodsky #tvsky

Watched THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. Beginning, just super (tho nowadays when AI makes yetis act all human and shit, the Wampa looks like Gary Busey after a 3 week bender), but since the first scene with Yoda, all I could think was, what if Yoda was this spaced out in the prequel trilogy, too? #filmsky

In CAUGHT STEALING I saw Austin Butler for the first time play a major character who's just a normal man. Turns out he can do it. Now I'm waiting for Timothée Chalamet to do the same. He too has this great movie star persona, but can he be a regular Joe? BTW, Aronofsky has made a good movie #filmsky

It happened again:
I start watching A NEW HOPE. At first it's childish, clumsy, ridiculous even, but when the suns set, Luke looks into the distance and the John Williams strings come in, I'm fully committed. By the Cantina scene I'm totally immersed in the adventure. Still a lovely movie #filmsky

Almost everyone who were funny in 1963 and decades before that were in IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD (Marx Brothers, Stan Laurel and Harold Lloyd sadly weren't). It's ear-splittingly cacophonous at times, but when Spencer Tracy smiles, everything is A-OK

My Summer of Spielberg wabbled on with a double-hit-and-miss: clichéd haunted barn yarn SOMETHING EVIL and super boring dropped pilot SAVAGE for TV. Wonder how he felt directing those turkeys after DUEL? At least things are picking up for me: Next up JAWS in my hometown theater on Friday! #filmsky

Universal has beautifully restored Steven Spielberg's THE SUGARLAND EXPRESS, a movie that started a directorial career like no other. Goldie Hawn's childlike determination as a young mother and wife and Ben Johnson's police chief's determination not to harm the fugitives are touching to see #filmsky

Battle cries of the engines, very clever camera work with fast-paced editing and Dennis Weaver's terror-filled eyes make Steven Spielberg's DUEL one of the best TV films ever made. Also, there's this Vietnam-era "back in the jungle" undercurrent lurking beneath the surface. What a debut! #filmsky
