🇺🇦 Every day is a good day to donate to Ukraine, whether to support the army or medical aid. However, these days it is particularly important. As always, U24 is a proven and safe way to do so from Canada and elsewhere

Last night I dreamt that there was a train between Milano and Zagreb, not an ordinary train but a LIBRARY TRAIN. You could read their books while sitting in something like armchairs. Posting this here so that someone brings this brilliant dream idea to fruition.

If you have nothing better to do tomorrow afternoon, UMichigan is organising a talk about my forthcoming book (hybrid via Zoom). Everyone is welcome!

The series is titled "Can ‘Slavic’ Speak for Minorities?" and I will talk about communist gender policies and Muslim communities.

One great thing about Edmonton is that there are small family restaurants for pretty much any cuisine in the world. Today Persian, tomorrow Ethiopian, the day after whatever I please...

A rare good thing in the federal budget: On page 172, they want Canada to explore Eurovision participation. I see my Eurovision parties becoming even larger!

If someone needs cat sitting in Edmonton, there is a woman called Denise (contact in DM) who is great and super reliable. She has visited us more than 30 times this year, and the cats love her.
My plants also survived thanks to her!

After 3 weeks of the Euro trip, I am looking forward to going back home to Edmonton to see my cats and climb again. And to cycle!

But I will miss trains! Now just to survive 22 hours of flights.

Last night at San Siro was epic, reminding me why we need to bring FC Edmonton back. Not that we would ever field 71,000 fans, but I would be satisfied with 7,100.

Hey YEG, if a 1,000-year-old Italian street can accommodate a fully protected bike lane, so can any street in Edmonton

Nothing beats trains in terms of comfort, and it is very sad we do not have them in our part of Canada. After taking one in Serbia, I will take two more trains in Italy over the next couple of days. Can't wait!

More shocking than shitty Babiš winning the Czech elections is the fact that the fully racist and fascist Okamura won about 8 percent.

An excellent piece in the Guardian: People think they know what war is.

"Across Donbas communities, many people who could no longer live in their destroyed houses near the frontlines still returned whenever they could."

People think they know what war is. Here’s what I learned in seven years on Ukraine’s frontline

I did not know Darren well, but when I first went out for Coffee Outside, he brewed me coffee and made me feel truly welcome.

I greatly admired his advocacy and public health work, which was exceptional.

Rest in peace, Dr Markland.
It is with great sadness that we invite you to join us Friday, September 26 to Coffee Outside to celebrate the life of Dr. Markland.

Dr. Markland was an incredible person who touched the lives of everyone who met him.

I cannot wait to take a few train trips in Italy and the Balkans in October. Ok, less excited about the Balkan trains, but I miss trains so much that I sometimes dream about being on one.

It's hard living in a place with no trains.
