Apart from the domestic ones

Having read 'Butler to the World' is makes perfect sense. Unraveling the mess will be utterly painful, especially domestically better keep the head in the sand and pretend all is great and the EU just wants to punish us

That’s probably why it’s called Duvel!

Read this week that if it's called mutual, people in the UK actually tend to support it.

Is this from actual mums on Mumsnet or Russians from a trollfactory on Mumsnet?

Some people in ‘de Randstad’ think everyone living outside of it are farmers. People from outside ‘de Randstad’ think people from inside ‘de Randstad’ there are different, but I don’t think we’ve considered them not real Dutch. There is also a split in people that live below and above ‘the rivers’

Yea like that's going to happen. Read 'Butler to the World'

Mist in Dutch is fog, Nebel in German, the German Mist is crap, mest in Dutch. Imagine the look at the hotel reception after arriving on the mountains in heavy fog, when I asked for a Zimmer with Mistblick 🤣

Well, on a positive note, I will never ever have to defend again why I don't "just become British" if I live here (next step, you can only live here, if you were born here?)

Could just be me but I had to Google Sydney Sweeney, and I only happen to know Margot Robbie because I had time to kill on a transatlantic flight. For me 2025 is the year I grew tired of social media, algorithms, streaming and most podcasts. Instead I rediscovered the library and read 133 books.

I don't pay tax in NL either, but if you are Dutch, you are allowed to vote, apart from local elections. We could not vote for the senate but they changed that last year. I also vote for a Dutch MEP

I am a Green Party member and have been well before ZP came along. I have done my reseach and know more about your politics than the average Brit. 'Democracy for Sale' and 'Failed State' are highly recommended btw. His suggestion was stupid, not based on any facts but on that outrage you highlighted

They don't live in the UK. If you cap personal donations and make it obligatory that we know who donated what where (at time it happens, not 3 years afterwards (Brexit donations redirected via DUP). Or better, just give political parties money from the tax coffers and ban donations all together.

I do find it very odd you cannot vote in your own country. I voted in every Dutch election since I left 21 years ago. They make decisions about dual nationality, the EU, my pension, wars, the "value" of my passport, the wellfare of my family. And hell, I want a say!
December 26, 2025 at 4:32 PM
Have you checked which British citizens have donated to the Tory party, reform, the Brexit campaign? And how much? And what they got in return? Their assets hidden in tax havens under the British crown etc etc? and you worry about the £60 this Dutch expat spends supporting the green party? Typical
December 26, 2025 at 4:27 PM
What if I live in the UK, pay taxes and can vote in local elections?

A washing up bowl does not have to live in the sink filled with dirty water. It can just be used to.... well... wash up. What the author has a problem with is the soak bowl.
