But honestly, I just want them to be fucking honest with themselves and us for five seconds. This isn't what Frost Children actually would have been at the time - they'd have been indie sleaze or pop-punk or electro hipsters or honestly about a dozen other options that would have been believable.

There are multiple ways this album could have worked: the first would have been to actually engage with and examine critically what the aesthetic actually was because it was arguably a horrific time to be a popstar. They could have done the whole thing as tongue in cheek parody.

Not a single one of these three would have been considered cool by the standards of 2007. This is three weird, trans nerds. Two years ago, Frost Children were saying awesome sauce unironically and rhyming Miu Miu with Mewtwo. I swear, this whole album feels like it's attempting to gaslight me.

There's no attempt to actually explore what pop music was in 2009 beyond the aesthetic. There's no attempt at criticising the extremely serious issues in the industry. Worst of all, it feels utterly disconnected from reality and perspective, leading the whole thing to feel like uncanny valley 2011.

This music video illustrates everything wrong with the album. It's feels like what mattered most to them was fulfilling their fantasy of being famous and cool in 2009.
But that's where everything falls apart. They're playing it straight meaning it feels disconnected from that era in time.
