A mishmash: Middle East stuff, development stuff, organizational dysfunction, crisis response, carbon transition dynamics, silly sports things. Mostly here to read smarter people than me.
Look, we knew this was coming. Elon is such a visionary he previewed this kind of thing years ago.

Saul Griffith said a while back that, if everyone in America switches to clean energy like we want (including things like EVs and heat pumps), total per capita electricity use will triple. Not sure if that includes more electricity for AC in hotter summers. Anyways, that stuff won't build itself

We need to build renewables and then build some more. (Well, other countries; the US is lost on this front but everyone else should feel free to pass us by) China has leveled out emissions but they're still high despite all the breakneck renewables deployment.

When progressives win in NYC that's cool. When they win mostly white, non-college blue collar voters who are as red as the day is long, that's something extra.

Right now the ESPN page for this game has the following video highlights: a Jalen Hurts fumble, a Jordan Love fumble, and Lane Johnson being helped off the field with an injury. I don't know what you perverts are doing watching this

A few weeks ago I helped chaperone a camping trip for some 8th grade boys who tried to act tough but were fundamentally good kids/nerds. They got in an Einstein vs. Plato argument where I heard my new favorite phrase: "bro, Einstein is GOATed bro." Unlike Elon they knew what they were talking about

I'm interested in the material struggles of the son of a governor/cabinet member/UN ambassador/think tank leader/woman who gets paid speaking fees somewhere between $100k and $1 million a pop.

ADL does a global antisemitism survey and this year the West Bank and Gaza had the worst score of any country in the world. When you dig into the survey questions you realize Palestinians have a very poor impression of Israel for some unknown reason

There's a WSU professor running around finding heirloom trees that were planted along old farm fence lines 100 years ago and whatnot. It sounds like pretty cool work but I had the privilege of biting into one once and holy crap was it awful. Supposedly it's good for cider.
