TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

What I always hear: “We can’t afford to pay our workers more than $15 an hour.”

What I never hear: “We can’t afford to pay our CEO millions of dollars a year.”

Funny how that works.

Serviceable. Interesting concept, executed without flair. Definitely a book. A slow start with a good middle and a somewhat disappointing ending. Worth the time but not... https://wiwi.kiwi/2025/12/08/finished-reading-the-incandescent-by.html

The Guardian says the quiet part out loud

"The president may also see some of himself in Swift, a staunch businesswoman who releases multiple editions of her albums to generate extra revenue and secure high chart positions – seemingly timed to prevent other artists from reaching No 1."
