Screenshot of the following text: With the SAVE act having passed the house, I would ask anyone who is a US citizen to do the following: Contact both the senators from your state (by phone, through their web email portal, via US mail, whatever) and let them know that this legislation must NOT pass in the Senate. If they're Republican, figure out some nice things to say about something they did that you liked, but how this bill is a disaster. If they're Democrat, give them the whole "now is your time to shine, this needs to be filibustered, take a cue from Cory Booker, etc." shpiel. Some of the reasons this bill is a disaster: It preempts state voter registration laws. If your state has easy, convenient voter registration, it quashes that. It forces states to spend money on creating or re-structuring their voter registration databases to document proof of citizenship. Depending on how registration is currently done in a given state and how it is implemented, it could cost states a lot of money. It does NOT allocate ANY federal money to be spent to help the states do this. This is an "Unfunded Mandate". It forces people to register IN PERSON. It also forces them to bring *proof of citizenship*. I.E. a passport, REAL ID that indicates citizenship, or birth certificate. There is no phase in period. This means states will be out of compliance immediately and have no time to react. The list goes on and on.
