I am an fine art painter based in #NovaScotia . I love painting #realism, and also love capturing light - particularly single light sources in a dark scene. I mainly work in acrylics, but like oils too.
Recently I've started exploring still life.. excited to see where that goes!
For the next 3hrs or so, this is me!
(All that’s missing is a cup of tea and occasional supervisor visits from the cat)

"If you make them they will come" is sadly not true.... so I'm going to have to get out of my introvert shell and do some marketing! I now have these lovely greeting cards of my paintings available in packs of 6 (including envelopes). 2 of each design.
Buy here! isobelhamilton.com/product/gree...

Are you in London? The Royal Miniature Society's annual show opens today at the Bankside Gallery. The work they have just amazing (they do also have these pieces of mine, but seriously, if you have a chance to go see the show you really should!). It only runs for this week....

Christmas cards! 😃 (or any occasion cards actually, they’re blank inside). I’ll be selling these in packs of 6 (2 of each design) with lovely sage green envelopes; just waiting for all the packing supplies to arrive!

Hallowe’en is a good excuse for baking! Paradise slices and done (slightly overdone) empire biscuits. Yum!

Someone on Twitter posted that they didn’t feel Bluesky worked out because it’s like a “polite country club”.
Personally I quite enjoy a polite country club 😆❤️

This one seems worth sharing. For the Canadians, a parliamentaty petition to make Canadian news organisations etc. have to be majority Canadian-owned. Seems like a no-brainer at this point...

One of the reasons I live this time of year? The Kentville pumpkin people! 🎃😃❤️

Today I am mainly grumpy. Trying to ship these to the UK, can’t use Canadapost because strike, and both UPS and DHL now charge all kinds of customs fees on top (thanks UK govt?)
Sure. $85 + $40 fees for things that may end up being sent back to me after the show.
Lovely.

I grew up in the UK, and didn't have to do this. Now I live in Nova Scotia, and I absolutely do this, because I have encountered people driving the wrong way round roundabouts here!!

Americans seem to be a real bee in their bonnet about paper straws (husband is watching Jon Stewart just now). Why is this? As adults, are you all still drinking using straws? I probably use a straw 6 times a year (and paper one are fine).
Have lots of you not graduated to cups/glasses? 🤔

Yesterday I did my first oil change (inc filter), and it went so well I decided to tackle the next level up and fixed our rear wiper motor! Replaced it with a new (used) one.
As I get older I realize a lot of tasks feel like you need an expert, when actually you do not! 😃🔧

Puck and I went for a wee walk through our woods this afternoon; she was kind enough to pose for some photos ❤️

I overpaid for a couple more still life objects today (btw my idea of overpaying is $25-$40… I want everything to be that $2 bargain 😂).
I’ve never seen an enamelled meat grinder (green!!), and I just fell in love with the pot. The dents make it even better ❤️

Today marks one year since my husband and I became Canadians! Our Canniversary if you will. Still very Scottish, but also very happily Canadian 😃🇨🇦🍁
(Having this anniversary at the BEST time of year was wonderful luck 🍂☀️🎃)

Had a lovely day today - one of those “this is why I live here” days ❤️ Beautiful weather, vibrant autumn colours everywhere, popped by Windsor and found a new antique shop and had lunch by the water 😊

Hey, @mark-carney.bsky.social . Maybe something for Canada to look at?
Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Nice find while thrifting the other day, for $4! Both my Scottish grandparents had lights that had these dangling crystal pendants. I’m sure I can use them for a painting or two!

I realised this morning, as I sat doomscrolling through the other place, wondering why news networks are ignoring all the videos filling my feed showing ICE literally assaulting innocent Americans, that I need another random thing to do for downtime.

I have a cold, so my day is being spent either on the sofa or the bed. I'm trying to be productive by doing some research into UK art galleries that I could potentially submit work to.
And here's one of my recent still life paintings: "In Grandad's Shed" oil on wood panel 22"x30"

I was going to post about my prints being available, and how to order, but now I feel I need to figure out how to actually get them to people, given US tariff nonsense and now Canadapost strikes.
As a tiny business, I’m pretty fed up with all this.

I'm excited to say that all 5 of my miniature paintings have been accepted into the Royal Miniature Society's show in London (UK) in November! In 2026 I'm going to try and get more of my work to UK galleries (if you have any suggestions please let me know!)

The weirdest thing about watching the fall of US democracy in real time, is how all the normal stuff still goes on. CNN: we are sliding into autocracy.
Also CNN: hey, watch our cool documentary about New Orleans! And here are some ads for a new iPhone and eating out!
🤔

I found this in value village today… it was overpriced, but it seemed such a perfect object for painting that I gave in and bought it!
I’ve been in a bit of a slump recently so I’m hoping it might spark something 🌟
