I just had a book club discussion about it and we weren’t sure either. It’s definitely a dream but we aren’t sure if it indicates death or something else. Most people did not like it, even if they otherwise liked the book.

(5/5) I may do a deeper dive into it once I finish the audiobook. The overall idea is complex and I think it’s been executed very well. The turn towards the grim is particular good. I’ll be recommending this one.

(4/5) Book 2 - Idle Grounds by Krystelle Bamford
Progress - I’ve been listening to the audiobook for a few days so I’m almost done.
Current reaction - really interesting!

(3/5) The struggle of identity as someone who immigrated as a child, and therefore without understanding, from a homeland that is being torn apart. I think it’s going to be a book we talk about for a long time.

(2/5) Book 1 - One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This by Omar El Akkad
Progress - only a couple chapters
Current reaction - it’s VERY good. Deeply personal but also important for everyone to be thinking about.

(3/3) Book#2: Eurotrash by Christian Kracht
Progress: a couple chapters
Current reaction: I always struggle with novels about writers. It’s just overdone. The reviews for this are good but I wasn’t pulled in. I’m not sure I’ll find time for it.

(2/3) Book #1: Beautyland by Marie-Helene Bertino
Progress: a couple chapters
Current reaction: it’s intriguing. Unique structure and themes. I might pick it up again. It won’t be a priority for me though.

(2/2) Progress - mostly skimmed
Current reaction - it’s okay. Nature writing can be hit or miss. I think this leans towards a miss for me but there were a few lines I found interesting. I won’t read more of it but it was a good companion for today.

2/2 …I like the focus, a character study of a woman willing to fight back. It’s not really the right genre for me though so I’ll probably be leaving it for now. I hope to come across a reader I can recommend it to who will tell me all about it.

(3/3) I started with the physical but realized the writing style was the kind I prefer on audio so I switched. I have a lot of other books I want to focus on so I’m not sure I’ll keep going with this. I think this is a skim rather than a full listen.

(2/3)The book takes its time revealing what that world is like, untangling some of the complications that world would have. There’s a lot of robot stuff and I’m not sure I totally get that part.

(2/2) I have often enjoyed Karen Russell’s short stories but I’ve never finished one of her novels. This is just weird enough that I think I might like it, but it might be too long for me to read it fully.
