This week's #FluorescenceFriday, we'll be treated with one of the classical models of #devbio, the neural crest cells. Here is a beautiful video of neural crest cells with GFP-tagged focal adhesion kinase (🔵) and LifeAct-RFP (🟣) migrating on a Fibronectin matrix.

In the spirit 👻 of Freaky Friday 🎃, here is a beautiful yet eery video of zebrafish retina development showing horizontal cells (🔵) finding their way out of the crowded amacrine (🟠) layer to settle beneath the photoreceptors. Happy #Halloween!

A cryosection from an embryo stained for the neural crest (🟠) using HCR, and DAPI (⚪).
Can you guess what embryo this is?

A classical neural crest migration. Even if the movie is a little bit shaky, their migration is still somehow mesmerising. It must be the stripes! 🤔 #fluorescencefriday

One our postdocs, Kai Weißenbruch, just won the Prize for Best Talk at the Cambridge-London Cell Motility conference for his talk on Frictiotaxis - how cells migrate toward regions of higher friction. This video shows a cell repolarises itself in a uniform friction channel. doi.org/10.1038/s414...

A cluster of neural crest cell migrating on some micro patterns (📹 Kai Weißenbruch). Also congratulations to former postdoc Adam Shellard, Kai Weißenbruch, and PhD student Peter A. E. Hampshire on their recent paper on friction-based migration. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Happy #ValentinesDay to all of our beloved developmental biologists from the ISDB team. Here is a heart made out of some migrating immune cells. It's only right that they are in pink. Do you spot another heart somewhere in the photo? 😌 💗

For our very first #FluorescenceFriday on #BlueSky, let's go back to arguably the most fundamental process of development: mitosis. I just never get tired of watching the chromosomes dance. Sample: ectodermal cells, nuclei: H2B-mCherry, plasma membrane: RFP-CAAX.
