I try not to look at it in terms of years. It's more how to get through this month and then re-assess. (And maybe stock up on more wine...)

I’m currently re-reading a book that seems to have foretold our times: Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman, chair of the Department of Culture and Communication at NYU decades ago.

A recent statistic from the Barbara Bush Foundation gives us a reason for that: 54% of U.S. adults (ages 16-74) read below a sixth-grade level. A vibrant democracy needs an informed electorate, and we no longer have that.

They don’t know how the government works or how it is supposed to work; they certainly have no idea of how the economy works.
